The Sony Ericsson Equinox has a thin flip phone design and provides support for T-Mobile’s 3G network. The new phone, also known as TM717, is priced at $49 with an Even More plan and $149 with an Even More Plus plan.
The phone’s size is 3.7 inches by 2.0 inches by 0.6 inch. So as far as you can see it is sleek and compact. It features a 2.25-inch internal display with support for 262,144 colors and a resolution of 320×240 pixels. It is vibrant and provides bright and sharp images. The menu interface is easy to use and besides, it is possible to add the MyFaves display to the standby screen. The display brightness and the clock size are adjustable.
However, as far as the external display is concerned, it turns out to be too small and in fact can hardly be useful. It indicates the time, battery backup, signal strength and caller ID. But you are not likely to see photo caller ID and the date. It is also not effective as a viewfinder for the camera lens.
There is also nothing good to say about its control buttons. The navigation array along with keypad buttons is flat and slippery. So there is a great chance of misdialing and making mistakes while texting.
The new handset features a 1,000-contact phone book with room in each entry for seven phone numbers, an e-mail address, a company name, two street addresses, a URL, a birthday, and notes (the SIM card holds an additional 250 names).
It also includes text and multimedia messaging, a speakerphone, a task list, a notepad, a stopwatch, a timer, a notepad, a calendar, a calculator, and an alarm clock. Among other features are Wi-Fi, USB mass storage, PC syncing, a voice recorder, instant messaging, a file manager, and a code memo for storing sensitive information.
The 3.2-megapixel camera enables you to make photos in four sizes and two quality settings. You also have a number of editing options such as three color effects, a night mode, white balance, brightness adjustments, 14 frames, a self-timer, panoramic and multishot modes, and four shutter sounds plus a silent option.
