 pandasecurity Panda Security Company have already introduced the results of its survey that was conducted during three months. It was held from July to September, 2009 on the diffusion of spam across different types of industries. Panda investigated 11 sectors, which were insurance, tourism, automotive, banking, food, construction and some others. Panda Security Company examined the email traffic released by 867 companies that are situated in 22 countries in the U.S. and Europe. (more than 503 million messages were examined till now) The company found out that the top addressee of email-borne malware and spam is the automotive industry.

The main target of the survey was comparison of the diffusion of malware and spam in various business sectors. The study shows that only 0.11 percent that businesses receive by mail is legal in the motor industry. Similarly 0.22 percent can be seen in the electronics sector as well as 0.40 percent – in government institutions.

Surprisingly as it may seem, the banking sector, forecasted by many to be a prime target, outlined near the bottom of the ranking with a ratio of 92.48 percent. The tourism and education sectors are close to the figure of 87.98 and 87.22 percent.

Nevertheless, no substantial difference was noticed in the subject fields of the spam that can be received in the different sectors. The main part of it, that is more than 68 percent were connected to pharmaceutical products. They were accompanied by advertisements for replica products with 18 percent, as well as messages with sexually explicit content at 11 percent.

Banker Trojans became the reason of about 70 percent of all malware detections. Then follow different adware/spyware with about 22 percent, and the rest (8 percent) comes for by viruses, worms and so on.
