Microsoft to Take Down Bing Cashback

Microsoft-to-Take-Down-Bing-Cashback Bing Cashback had a good run but Microsoft has decided to take it down for some reason. Cashback used to offer online shoppers’ cash rebates for buying products and searching them on the Bing website.

There were some small or maybe big issues attached to Bing and one of them involved the credit card thingy, which we heard last month. Apparently, users who had their credit card info stored in Bing profiles went through a shock when their VCCs popped up through Google Search results.

Google soon fixed the problem but it did leave a stainy spot there. The Cashback service attracted more than 1,000 online merchants who used to offer cash back services, but the whole set up is going to be collapsed on July 30th.
Too Complicated?
Maybe the concept of Cashback was too much to ask for and it may have kept a lot of users away from availing it. Greg Sterling – from Sterling Market Intelligence pointed out the complexity on the basis of his experience which users went through.

The idea of getting cash rebates at a particular time, and on specific deal was a little hard for a lot of people to understand. Some people only held back because they thought that Bing Cashback was too good to be true and it mainly occurred due to the partial awareness. Or maybe the amount of cash being offered as a rebate wasn’t enough for those buyers.
Grand Plan Abandoned
Cashback was once a crucial element for Microsoft’s push to get positioned at the number one spot and it was a good way of landing in that search engine results. Bill Gates was personally fond of this service and he used to describe it as a new platform for advertising. We won’t know what went wrong with Cashback – maybe it got assailed by an inside conspiracy or something like that, but some of us are really going to miss this service.

With Bing going away and usually offering the best cash back value, I will now turn more to cashreporter.com to compare the Cash Back sites. They do a good job of covering the major players including those previously mentioned and they seem to update pretty frequently. That way I know that I’m getting the best bang for my buck with Bing being out of the picture.
