Microsofts-Office-365On December 30 Hotmail SQL servers had a problem with load balancing that resulted in the loss of data from 17,355 email accounts. The data was restored in three day but there are reports that some accounts still got their data missing.

There were questions as to why the servers are doing a load balance in one of the busiest time of the year, how it happened and how they were recovered. People are also asking why it took at least three days to restore the lost data. Now people are having doubts as to how Microsoft can handle their company’s data.

While the problem has been solved, Microsoft hasn’t given out a definite source of the data lost. Days after the accident Microsoft technical support staff are still giving out generic messages to the people affected by the accident.

It’s almost a week and there are people with missing messages. The technical support stated that they are actively working on resolving the issue but haven’t said anything about what caused it. While Microsoft is still troubleshooting the issue, people are worried as to what has really happened with their data and how the problems were resolved. The 17,000 plus accounts might just be a small number but the way Microsoft handled the situation is something to think about.
