When you were a kid and you played your favorite video game system, whether it was Nintendo or Sega, you dreamed that one day you would be able to create your own games. And if you turned out to be a programmer, then there is a good chance a big reason that you got into the field is so that one day you would be able to build your own game. The chance to form your own imaginary world where you make the rules, is too addictive for most people to pass up. And if they have a chance, they usually do not pass it up. Especially if they have the skill to follow though with it. But creating a game is a lot harder now than it was back in the day. Most games are million dollar affairs and have a team of people creating them. But there is still one place, that a one man shop can bring an exciting game to millions of people. And that is in the mobile space. If you always wanted to create a video game, developing one for the Android is a great place to start.

There are very few things that you need to develop an application for the Android marketplace. First you need to make sure that you at least know a little bit of Java, if you are going to be the one creating the game. If you are going to hire someone to execute your vision, then you have to make sure that they know the Java programming language. Creating a game is not easy, so you must make sure that you receive samples of previous work, from your potential developer. There is no better way to know if they truly understand the language than by looking at past work. After that, either you or the developer needs to download the Android SDK and install it on the computer. After these first couple of steps are accomplished, you are on your way to developing a new application for the phone.

After the game is complete, there are a couple of ways that you can use the creation of the game to help you. You can either sell it directly to the people who download it, or you can use it to promote a business or web site that you run. Using the game as a promotional item is helpful, especially if you give the game away in the marketplace. The one thing that will guarantee a lot of downloads in the mobile phone space, is giving something away for free. People will try it out and decide if they like it or not. If you do want to try and sell the game, you can create a demo version and give that away for free. Then the people who want to have more feature or play more levels, can purchase the rest of the game from you. No matter what you decide to do, you have an opportunity to get a game that you created out to the mass public. And it will be an advanced 3d game, something mobile phones were not able to do for a long time.

Using the mobile phone arena is a great way to start to become a game developer. You can try new ideals, while getting the exposure to millions of people who own the phone.
