Yahoo Has Big Plans, Wants to Target Google… Big Surprise

What do you do when your company can’t catch the top dog in your industry? Well, you declare war of course and try to battle them at every chance you get. Even though Google has over 65% search market share, Yahoo still feels the need to take them down “some how”. I posted last week about Yahoo CEO giving Google advice and today I read that Yahoo’s “plan” is to take Google head-on.

I think because Yahoo is watching Microsoft catch up (gaining at about 10% search market share), they feel the need to do something being the company is still in second with about 11% of search market share. Although that is the case, Yahoo has had such a wet and wild past, are they to the point where there is nothing to lose?

Almost as soon as Carol Bartz took over at Yahoo, she started making changes and set forth a 100 million dollar promotional plan to get Yahoo “back on the map”. Why do I think that Yahoo is after Google, again? The latest video spot shows a blank web page with a search field on it. The video starts, “There is a theory about homepages”. “They should get you where you want to go. You don’t stop or linger. There’s nothing to look at but a box and a button.”

Yahoo is clearly taking aim at Google, without saying so, and the fact they are all about search, but really do it minimally. I will like to keep on eye on this “battle” in the coming months. You can read more here.
