There are plenty of GPS units out there now and don’t forget that your cell phone might also have a GPS feature. One thing that I really never thought of was what people are actually using their GPS to find. Typically you might use a GPS (global positioning system) to get yourself going in the right direction to a place you have never visited. Today I read that TeleNav has released a paper showing what people are actually trying to find with their GPS.
What place do you think tops the list? I really didn’t think about the #1 location when I read it because there are so many of them everywhere you turn. That’s right, Wal-Mart was the #1 place that was trying to be located by people using AT&T Navigator and Sprint Navigator. People cannot find a Wal-Mart? That can’t be right, but it must be sort of embarrassing for Wal-Mart.
The next three places on the list were Starbucks (makes sense), Target and Best Buy. I can see where users would want to know where the nearest Starbucks is especially for those that travel to new cities for their job.
Another thing that TeleNav keeps track of is what places are using the search more often than others and it appears that Maryland is one of the most lost states. In their defense Maryland was also listed to taking 2 times as many trips as other states. In my opinion, I think that using the GPS is just easier than just knowing where some place is.
Check out the website to see if you can get TeleNav on your phone.
