Barclays recently said that there is a big chance that the Verizon Wireless will be selling the iPhone by 2011. As of now, the potential iPhone carrier is the biggest mobile-phone provider in the country today.
If this pushed through, the sales of the iPhone would give Verizon more subscribers. It is expected that it would increase by as much as 900,000. Thus, the total number of subscribers would reach 2.8 million by 2011. This was according to the research made by the Barclays. James Ratcliffe also said that the profit of Verizon Wireless will be lesser next year. This is because of the subsidies of the mobile phones that the carrier would use to invite more subscribers.
As of now, Verizon is still battling against AT&T since the latter is currently the only seller of iPhone in United States. If they get to acquire iPhone as well, they would be luring other smartphone users who are willing to pay for phone calls and internet access using the smartphone from Apple Inc. according to the reports from Gartner Inc. of Stamford in Connecticut, the leading smartphone platform today is Google’s Android. But of course, iPhone is not far behind.
James Ratcliffe also said that a big number of current subscribers of Verizon will definitely activate and upgrade to iPhone once it becomes available.
Of course, there is a basis for this forecast. Ratcliffe said that there are numerous semiconductor analysts from Barclays that focus their study in the mobile industry alone.
On the other hand, the CEO of Verizon Communications Inc. said that they are very much interested to get the iPhone and make it a part of their products. However, Ivan Seidenberg said that it is not theirs to call but they just have to wait for the decision of Steve Jobs’ company.

Android is not even close to the leading smartphone platform. iPhone crushes the Droid as far as sales go and I myself am a Droid user. Know your facts if your going to publish an article like this.
iphone is going to be so awesome with verizon
I pray to our Lord in the sky the iPhone never hits that CDMA network. If Verizon wants an iPhone, they need to get their cheap asses into gear and create an HSPA+ network like Bell did in Canada. That useless proprietary nonsense CDMA is not a standard, it’s a pile of trash that the FCC needs to ban for monopolistic activity. If Verizon does the right thing and does go GSM, I’d love to see the iPhone on them. For now, maybe it will goto T-Mobile, the only other real carrier in the USA as of right now.
