Study Shows Cyber Crimes Threaten Most Adults

Hacking is nothing new and studies that pop up every single year really haven’t been all that surprising.  Until I saw a study that showed 65% of adults are victimized by a cyber crime.  Even after all of these years, we still have people that are allowing themselves to become victims of some sort of cyber attack.

The study showed that 97% of adults think they will be affected in some point throughout their lives.  Doesn’t that just mean that 97% should maybe educate themselves so they are not victimized?  7,000 users, were surveyed by Symantec, from 14 different countries and the study showed of the 67% that were victims, 51 percent felt angry about it, with only 40% feeling cheated by the cyber attack.

The study shows that malware and virus attacks are the most common and that 51% of adults have felt the affect of these in some way.  An amazing 13 percent of adults said they actually felt safe online.  These numbers are somewhat alarming to me.  Isn’t there plenty of educating materials on the internet to keep people from being victims of cyber attacks?

There is plenty of cost involved with the cyber attacks the study talks about.  About 1 in 4 Americans feel the problems are never resolved and the study shows the average cost associated is about $130.  With all 7,000 users surveyed, about half did not think they could get a reputation back online once it was attacked.

What do you think about these numbers?
