Sony to Stream Music on PSP

Sony is set to launch a cloud based streaming music service on the PSP called Music Unlimited. The said service is set to be deployed on April 14. It will run on Qriocity, which is Sony’s cloud platform. With the service, the users can access their music files on the PS3, TV, laptop, Blu-ray player, and a lot more.

Sony’s Qriocity is similar to the Amazon Cloud Drive that the company launched last March 29. Google is also said to be planning a service similar to these two but there’s no official word yet from the search engine giant.

Music Unlimited has 6 million tunes in its database and this will be accessible to PSP users through Wi-Fi. All it takes is a PlayStation Network account and the latest PlayStation firmware update, which is version 6.3.7. There is a 30 day free trial period, after which you need to pay a subscription fee of $3.99 a month or $9.99 a month to access premium features.

Music Unlimited and the other Qriocity services will also be available on new Sony Ericsson Android devices, including the Xperia Play. It would also be on the PlayStation Tablet. Adding music on demand is one way Sony is trying to attract gamers away from Nintendo’s 3DS.
