Now that just about everyone can afford an HDTV, it appears that companies like Samsung are creating TV’s that just might eliminate the need for a desktop computer.  That’s right!  Samsung has rolled out a line of HDTV’s that are ready to connect to the internet, display your favorite Yahoo widgets and even get you movies directly to your TV via Amazon Video on Demand service.

What is all the Buzz?

Take your HDTV for instance, you either just bought it and a premium price OR you paid through the nose for it a couple of years ago.  Now, the TV you bought years ago has few features and you wish you wouldn’t have spent your entire tax return on it at the time.  The new Samsung HDTV’s are going to have the internet right on them.  You can pre-order them and I am not saying they are going to be cheap, but you are going to get more features (listed below) than you can shake a stick at.  Right now, you can pre-order a 46-inch 1080p 240hz LED HDTV in black for about $2500.

With internet coming right to your TV there is no need for things like a desktop computer.  You can get Yahoo widgets that allow you to preview the weather, connect with friends, help you shop online.  Now you can bet you are going to see application popping up all over the web for your internet based HDTV.

Some are saying that in a couple of years the computer will be obsolete, BUT I think that those with computers will be the ones that actually now how to AND use them for something other than chatting online or browsing ebay.  There are many people that run a company from a computer and it was the same way about 10 years ago.  When computers became more affordable, every single person had one.  Now, the features that computers came with that allowed users to get online, chat and buy things, are coming to TV.  I guess typical computer users might junk their PC’s but to the rest of us, they are still very useful!
