With so many small handheld 3D devices showing up in the electronics market recently, it may make some customers wonder why they have not seen much in the way of larger devices. This is especially true when you think about a larger TV that wouldn’t need special glasses so you could enjoy that 3D effect.

One of the problems is that it’s a hard process to design a larger 3D device, such as a TV, that doesn’t need glasses to work because there are so many more viewing areas, and you don’t always know where a person will be looking. That is easier done on a small scale, such as that of devices like the Nintendo 3Ds, which of course has a smaller screen than a large TV you would want to put in your living room.

The manufacturer Samsung is working to find a way around that issue and has now debuted a 55 inch LCD TV that they say you can watch in 3D without having to use any sort of special glasses. While this model isn’t available for sale as yet, if it works, it will be a dramatic breakthrough in technology.

This 55 inch TV isn’t the first TV that the producer said didn’t require 3D glasses, but it is the first that allows it and still supports nine angles of viewing. It does this through a special LCD panel that has an optical refraction index that can be changed to watch it in either 2D or 3D. If a user sets it for 3D, it acts like a camera lens and shows each eye a different image to create the 3D effect. It also will have 1080p HD quality.
