The FCC chairman is working on getting 100MB internet to 100 million homes by 2020 and they say that would be a huge boost for remote medicine. What the hell does that mean? Let me tell you.
The short story is that in the “National Broadband Plan“, there is a 25 page section just on healthcare. For the most part, the Department of Health and Human Resources will have to make sure that health care facilities are connected, even ones in the rural areas of the country.
At the very least patient records should be kept in a national secure database that can be accessed by patients and their caregivers no matter where in the country they are located. There is a simple example given in the report about “Beverly”. A 49 year old woman that had a stroke and when she arrived at the hospital, a video link to another doctor helped get a neurological exam underway, at the same time the other doctor could get lab data and vital signs that are important.
Not only is the FCC really starting something new here, they claim that by switching all providers to electronic health systems with on-screen reminders for doctors could actually save almost 40,000 lives per year. Does that mean that 40,000 lives are lost every single year because a doctor is not being reminded of something important?

What youre saying is completely true. I know that everybody must say the same thing, but I just think that you put it in a way that everyone can understand. I also love the images you put in here. They fit so well with what youre trying to say. Im sure youll reach so many people with what youve got to say.
