The release of open source Postgres database was due in August and it is being hoped that the new features are going to attract entrepreneurs and different businesses alike. Bruce Momjian – developer of the Postgres database is hoping that the project will suffice the needs of different administrations.
The facilities that Postgres Database provides are remarkable. When it’s about general use and open source data bases, such as:
• MySQL
We can’t think of a lot of choices because MySQL is a common name these days. What we need is a little bit of variety and EnterpriseDB has managed to deliver it to us. According to Momjian – “Postgres [usage] is continuing to grow really quickly. We’re getting a lot of people who used to use Oracle, MySQL and [IBM] DB2, and that has accelerated in the past six months or so”.
We will have to wait till August for a full-on review for Postgres Database. Whether the software can show administrators which applications are making which calls to the database, we’ll find it out soon enough.
Posrgre 9.0 will be able to update the last 8.4 version that was released last July. Developers unveiled the second beta version of 9.0 in June. As for the full release, one can expect it in mid-August.
As a matter of fact, the version 9.0 will be available with a range of new features that are expected will appeal to enterprises.
The software features a tool with the help of which it will be much easier to upgrade a Postgres database to a new version, known as Pg_migrator. With the new version the data will stay in place, only table layouts are replaced. In fact, the process will take about a minute even with terabyte-sized databases.
