PlayStation 3 will out sell and become the largest platform globally by 2010 according to industry analyst, David Mercer. Even Nintendo had recently revealed in an interview that they believed that Nintendo Wii sales were starting to hit the top since over 70 million households already have the Wii.
Mercer also said: “Meanwhile, Sony’s PS3 and Microsoft’s Xbox 360 will continue to grow, so that the PS3 will become the largest platform globally by 2013. In terms of cumulative lifetime sales we expect the PS3 to hit 127 million units, compared to 103 million Wiis.”
Mercer also goes on and explains that in 2010 the global console sales will likely fall again. In 2009 the industry declined by 6% and for 2010, estimated console sales will be at 47.5 million, a 9% decline. The Wii is the main cause for the decline in sales for 2010, since sales of the PS3 and Xbox 360 will most likely increase.
The good news here is the PS3 Rocks and I personally love PlayStation and would love to see it develop and evolve more! This may even push Nintendo Wii to come up with a newer and better model to try to stay on top. Now what will happen next really is entirely based on what Nintendo will do next. If they decide to just continue things and let the market decide, the market will start leaning more on other gaming consoles since that market seems like is at its full capacity.
