In just two weeks, the desktop as well as web Office 2010 will be available for businesses.
The company has unveiled the code for SharePoint 2010, Office 2010, Project 2010 and Visio 2010 in order to produce.
Customers that have volume licensing from Microsoft along with Software Assurance will be able to make downloads from the Volume Licensing Service Center, starting on April 27. Those customers who have volume licensing but without SA will able to take advantage of the software on May 1.
As for web versions of Office, i.e. Office Web apps, they will appear in the market at the same time. Also the company is to release on-premise as well as hosted versions of Office Web apps.
Nothing has been said when a free version of Office Web apps will be available for consumers. According to the spokesperson, the company does not have a particular date to reveal.
It is expected that the Office Web apps will be the most interesting part of the overall Office 2010. One should say that Office Web apps include a set of tools that are good looking but at the same time they are cut down on editing as well as creating documents in the browser.
SharePoint 2010 is regarded as a key ingredient which is integrated into Office Web apps. On-premise and hosted versions of the Office Web apps will use SharePoint that offers such features as active directory integration, document history, backup/restore as well as auditing.
