Nintendo says 3DS is more than a gaming device

Nintendo officials are saying that the new 3DS is much more than just a gaming device and is to be considered an entertainment system. With past critics saying that a mere gaming platform was useless in today’s iPhone world, Nintendo wants their customers to know that this newest edition to the Nintendo lineup is more than just that.

Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime told CNN in a recent interview that the 3DS was “not just a gaming device,” but was indeed “an entertainment device.”

He referenced the features on the new system such as the 3D camera, music player and the future plans to make it able to stream Netflix video and record 3D movies. Nintendo plans to update the 3DS to full online functionality with a web browser and a website where users can download games and applications.

Nintendo is excited about the new 3DS, especially since it sold more during the first launch day that it did of any other previous Nintendo handheld product, possibly due to the novelty of the 3D glasses.

This isn’t the first time Nintendo has tried a 3D product. In the past it came out with Virtual Boy, which was a big innovation in the industry, but didn’t make it in the market. They also had considered making a 3D Gamecube, but it would have meant users would have to buy a special screen and wouldn’t have been as good as the 3DS experience.

In my opinion web updates ruined games and game systems. The fact that they advertise a product having features and then not including them on launch is bad business ethics in my opinion. If it wasn’t ready at launch then they should of suspended the release longer. The 3DS wasn’t cheap that’s for sure.
