According to Shigeru Miyamoto, the great mind behind the Mario franchise, Nintendo is trying very hard to get consoles and handheld units into schools as teaching and educational tools.
Since the DS is already used in museums and aquariums, Nintendo is devoting much time into getting the DS into junior high and
elementary schools starting with the new school year, at least in Japan. I think that having a system like the DS as an educational tool cannot be a bad thing at all. If anyone is going to show us how it’s done, it will be Japanese students since they are very well known for being bright and ahead of their time in education.
If Nintendo can get the DS into schools as a teaching tool, just think how much further that will punch them ahead of all the rest of the console manufacturers. There are a ton of schools and with the Nintendo DS being so easy to use, children and young adults would be more apt to use them in school.
Nintendo is outselling other consoles left and right and when asked about this Miyamodo declined to comment, but did say that Nintendo hoped to increase the number of users that are connected to the internet though the Wii console. Since the Wii is really appealing to woman and senior citizens, the console sales have increased in recent years.
