Motorola filed a new lawsuit in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida that claims Apple has infringed on six patents with its iPhone 4S and iCloud. This is the second patent lawsuit that Motorola filed against Apple in the same court.
Motorola claims that Apple has infringed and continues to infringe on those patents. It wants an injunction of the two products as well as seeking damages. It said that the infringing activities have caused irreparable harm to Motorola Mobility, which has no remedy at law.
Motorola added that it filed the supplementary lawsuit because the district court prevented it from filing additional infringement claims to its first lawsuit. Apple didn’t offer any comment with regards to the issue.
Last year, Motorola won against Apple in Germany. A local court ruled that Apple violated Motorola’s patents with its iPad and iPhone. It also came out with a ruling that Apple violated two of Motorola’s patents.
Last year, Google announced that it plans to acquire Motorola for $12.5 billion but the deal has not been finalized yet. According to some analysts, Google must have given the go signal to file the latest suit. It is stipulated in a merger agreement that Motorola needs to get Google’s consent for any new action in court.
