According to new data released by Flurry, Droid is the top selling phone with 1.05 million units sold. Second place was the iPhone at 1 million units sold. The most disappointing one was the Nexus One, coming at number three with 135,000 units sold.
The sales are calculated by the first 74 days from respective launches. iPhone did good but not as good as Android. Android sold more since if we combine both the Droid and Nexus One, we get almost 1.2 million new sales compared to iPhone’s, 1 million. That’s almost 20% more for the Android. The good news is that Android is making headway’s and will outsell all operating systems and become a gigantic network.
One reason why the Droid did so much better is that Verizon offers the Droid through their online and retail locations. Last time I checked, it’s around $200 if you buy it with the contract. The Nexus One on the other hand, if you want it, you need to pay full retail for the phone since Verizon Doesn’t sell it. Verizon is the biggest Wireless Provider in the United States and that’s a big chunk of the market that have yet to be marketed to.
There are rumors and some announcements have been made that the Nexus One is coming to Verizon Wireless as well. That will boost sales for the Nexus One and it’d be interesting to see the stats at 6,9 and of course by the end of 2010. Truth of the matter is that most people already know or are starting to find out that the Nexus One is a great phone. And if/or/when Verizon starts offering the Nexus One, sale will sky rocket.

Do you base your decision to buy a phone… on what everyone *ELSE* is buying… or on what *YOU* need/want/like?
Do you want a heavy, bulky, boxy Droid… with a screen that can’t be used outdoors… and a keyboard that is cramped and useless?
Or do you want a phone with multitasking abilities, backed by google, 2x faster then the iphone, open source, the proven Linux kernel, integrated search the list goes on and on. Android Invasion!
