I am not really sure what is going on over at Microsoft regarding the Windows Phone 7 updates, but according to comments on the developer site, they might not have a clue either. The updates have been slow, customers have been getting upset and it seems that Microsoft isn’t “hurrying” up the process any.
Simple comments about most users getting the update from February, have been found untrue and that is the reason for the apology at this point. The update adds copy and paste features, performance updates and improvements to the Marketplace for buying apps. In the meantime, while everyone associated with the updates is avoiding Bill Gates, they have posted a schedule of events so that users can see when the updates are “expected” in the US and international markets.
Some phones already have the update, including the HTC Arrive from Sprint. The update that isn’t going so well is the first version of the Windows Phone software that supports CDMA networks such as Sprint and Verizon. This is not the first time that an update has created a small nightmare for Microsoft. One of there last updates was delayed because the process itself was not cooperating with some Samsung phones.
The last delayed update was just to test the updating process, which seemed to go just fine minus the Samsung phones, and prepare phones for future updates. Honestly, I do not think that Microsoft will be able to keep up with the changes in the smartphone industry long enough to stay competitive. What do you think?
