With Microsoft really spending money on it’s Bing Search engine, do you think that it is all for nothing? The Microsoft name is synonymous with things like “monopoly” and that will not do it any good when Google’s name is synonymous with things like “search”. Microsoft has made nice advances in product search engine ability, but the software giant’s lack of credibility in the internet industry will be holding it back, at least against Google.
“Bing is what Amazon.com would be like if it had a great search experience and less merchandise clutter”, as posted on eweek.com late last month. In the last one year since Bing, there have been plenty of stories about Microsoft’s rise and fall as they new search engine tries to play with the big boys.
Stories like “Search Not a Zero Sum Game vs Google” and “Microsoft Exec Shows off Bing on Windows Phone 7 Series, Foursquare”, are at least showing that Microsoft is headed in the right direction. But my only thought is, why does a search engine have to be so centered around products? Why does Microsoft think that is the only thing people search for?
There are plenty of Google fans and many, many anti-Microsoft internet users out there. The uphill battle that Microsoft has against Google is really an understatement.
