LTE-Advanced Release 10 has been given the approval of the major phone manufacturers during a meeting in Taipei. The mobile data standard will increase the transfer speeds up to 1 Gbps. This is ideal for downloads of audio-visual files onto mobile phones.
LTE-Advanced allows machine to communicate with another through sensors, which can define changes in air temperatures to detect fire or burglary and pass the information to an emergency personnel. Its applications are limitless.
The U.N. International Telecommunication Union stated that it regards LTE-Advanced as one of the two mobile data transfer standards which can be qualified as true 4G technologies. The other standard is WirelessMan-Advanced.
Participants of the 3rd Generation Partnership Project Conference held in Taipei include major handset manufacturers and telecom companies, which include Nokia, HTC, as well as Samsung Electronics. They agreed on the technical details of the standard and discussed the possibility of cross-licensing the said technology.
3GPP is a partnership of six regional standards agencies that are based in Europe. It is likely to approve LTE-Advanced at a conference in the United States. After the go signal from 3GPP, the standard will be available for smartphone makers and network equipment manufacturers. Five years will be the estimated period before Release 10 devices are available to consumers.
