Despite the studies that proclaim that the Android OS is the best mobile platform, reports show that Apple’s iOS is still the top mobile operating system. Though it looks like iOS is leading in most surveys, these include all iOS devices, which include iPods, iPhones, and iPads.
The said iOS devices are compared with Android phones and tablets. They show that the total number of iOS devices is more than the number of Android devices in the United States. Apple has a 16.2 percent share while Android has 10.2 percent.
The problem is that most studies compare one mobile OS with another without looking at the devices that uses it. If you subtract the number of iPods from the total number of iOS devices and you get around 22.9 million iOS devices. The total number of Android devices in the United States is 23.8 million. That means that the analysts are true that Android OS is indeed better than iOS.
Android has managed to grab most of the smartphone market and Apple can’t do anything about it. The launch of the iPhone 4 and the Verizon iPhone didn’t manage to turn the tide towards the iOS’ favor. Android tablets are arriving soon and this would mean more trouble for Apple.
