Apparently, both Microsoft and Sony have reached slight gains in console sales, just like every other year before. According to PCWorld.com, in Jan. Xbox sold 333,000 units which was UP 7% year over year gain. In Feb. Xbox sold over 422,000 units which is an 8% year over year gain.
With Sony, the numbers are a tad lower, BUT the percentage is higher year over year. Sony Jan. sales were 277,000 units
(up
36%) and in Feb. 360,000 units (up 30%). I think that is is common for sales numbers like this to pop up, especially since Sony hasn’t really been able to outsell Microsoft in consoles over the years. Sony will gain much more because of users buying multiple consoles, only choosing Playstation 3 as a second to the Xbox 360.
Microsoft is calling Feb. 2010, the “biggest February in Xbox 360 history” and they are attributing that to blockbuster game sales and fresh new content available through Xbox Live. There is also rumor that Microsoft wants to get into “controller free gaming” soon and that might have spiked console sales just a bit.
Sony, on the other hand, is saying that console sales would be much higher if they didn’t have such tight inventories, even though Sony claims there is a high demand for the console. I guess if something is NOT ever available, that it would be in high demand.
In my opinion you cannot beat the Xbox 360 and I think the console sales speak for themselves. Sony saying they have inventory issues and that is why sales are low, is just bad business. Give the customer what they want or they will go somewhere else to get it. It’s not that hard.
