That is right, it was sort of tough reading the news about Facebook generating more visits then my favorite search engine, Google. For the week ending March 13th, Facebook actually grabbed 7.07% of all internet visits and Google topped out at only 7.03% of the visits. Of course, that isn’t all that much more, but I don’t think Google is really used to not being on top.
Over the last 6 months or so, Facebook has taken the lead in weekly visits and the major ones were on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Years Day of this year. They also edged out Google the first weekend of March this year. My guess is that there were a ton of people uploading photos to share on Facebook those holidays, that is why so many people visited.
For Facebook, it is quite a milestone considering that Google is just a search engine and gets many, many visits per second. How many times do you visit Facebook during the day? I might hit my news feed up about 3 times, if I have time, BUT I am constantly using Google to search. I think that Facebook has some pull in this type of race, but all in all they could still fall of the face of the earth, like Myspace, and Google search would still be around.
