Google, the parent company of YouTube, is investing more than $100 million on programming for the popular site’s television service, Google TV. Google TV was launched last year, and brought YouTube a step closer to its goal of competing against broadcast and cable broadcasting.

YouTube already is capable of producing stars with six-figure incomes and has been known in the past to feature professional entertainment programming. However, programming on YouTube usually came from video sharing posted to the site by users.

The new version of YouTube will have it giving broadcast and cable TV more competition and will feature a lineup of around 20 channels with themes such as arts and sports. The popular YouTube company plans to put out five to 10 hours of original and professional produced video as well.

YouTube officials are already talking with organizations to make channels created by their clients. They also hope to bring in a variety of programming from television shows and movies that people know well already.

These upcoming changes on YouTube are predicted to begin by the end of 2011 and the future plans for YouTube’s reorganization will be announced as time goes by.
