Text messages on cell phones have soared up since the release of the first mobile phone. Hey I remember the day when I got my first mobile phone – it was the Nokia 3310 and looked like a big brick. Well, it was pretty common back in those days and we just used to text each other, like all other folks out there.
I didn’t completely know about the Text Messaging mania until I went through this small survey report from Pew Internet and America Life Project, on text messages. On September 2009, it was reported that 54% American teenagers sent text messages to each other on daily basis. This percentile increased as compared to a previous survey, which was conducted in April 2008.
In this small texty-text race, girls have beaten boys fair and square by a huge difference. Girls, between the ages of 14 to 17, send almost a 100 text messages on an average scale and guys, on the other hand, send 20+ text messages on an average scale.
Okay, now there are two sides to this whole Text Messaging Craze. The teenies are sending them to each other for the purpose of making friends, social networking, small hellos and Hi’s and “Hey –i-m-so-getting-struck-by-boredom-rite-now-that-I-thot-of-texting-U!”. And the other side is evident as well -during exams, these cellphones come in handy for cheating effectively.
But who’s to complain on the cellphone service networks side? Apparently no one and its going to be like this until the end of time. So enjoy life, share text messages, the love, the sorrow and get entangled in the massive social circus.
