Get Tested For STD’s & Foursquare Gives You a Badge

Well not exactly, but the “check in” site Foursquare is handing out badges to those that check in at their local clinic. Foursquare is an application you can download to your smartphone that allows you to “check-in” when you arrive at restaurants, bars and anywhere you feel like announcing to folks.

The special badge for getting checked out for STD’s is only available in September. The badge is being offered as part of MTV’s “GYT: Get Yourself Tested” campaign. I think that MTV is hoping that this campaign makes getting tested for things like this a less embarrassing task. The whole point is that once your friends see that you went and get tested, the hope is that they might get tested as well.

The badge is simple, black and green with the letters GYT on it. MTV spokesman is hoping that it will take off and the task of getting tested becomes as common as going to the dentist. You can go to any doctor of your choice and once you arrive and “check-in” with the zip code you are required to “shout” the letters GYT to your friends.

The smartphones are using GPS technology to locate you and post where you are to all friends you have registered on the site, as well as, many other social networking sites that you can link your account to.
