Gay “cure” application pulled by Apple iTunes

The group, Exodus, says it is a global Christian ministry that helps gays trying to live a more biblical life style. Their representative said that they were saddened that Apple decided to pull their application. They added that they considered it an insult against free speech to take their application down from the iTunes store.

The free program pointed users to information on the group, as well as to videos, podcasts, Twitter feeds and the group’s Facebook page. Exodus believes that homosexuals can be freed through faith.

Apple said that they removed the application because it went against their guidelines because it was offensive to a large part of their users.

The group Truth Wins Out said that the application was an insult to Apple’s customers and would have served as a way to spread misinformation and anti-gay bigotry across the Internet and beyond, especially because it focused on taking advantage of the worries of insecure or desperate young gays and lesbians.

Truth Wins Out is a group whose goal is getting rid of the thought that homosexuality can be cured. They added that it was good of Apple to pull the application, since it was offensive and made homosexuals look like evil.

Their representative spoke out against Exodus’ claim that Apple’s pulling of the application was a blow against free speech, saying that instead it was a way of preventing an anti-gay group from putting out false information at the expense of young gays and lesbians, as well as bisexual or transgender individuals.

Exodus says that Apple should carry their application because it features several homosexual programs and podcasts in their App Store and should therefore allow their Christian application.

After more than 150,000 people signed an electronic petition demanding its removal, Apple has taken down an iPhone application put up by a group that advocates that gays can be cured of their same sex attractions.

Exodus said they hoped Apple will reconsider, as the issue has come down to what people believe about free speech and equality.

I had to rate one because that is a very bad way apple has dealt with this situation. I particularly dont like the name “gay cure” but I think exodus has every right to publish and app and help those who want out of that life. Apple should be sued and I agree this is a freedom of speech violation and the courts should decide if the app stays or goes. Although it’d be nice if they changed the name to something like – “I DONT WANT TO BE GAY ANYMORE” or something to that extent.

The First Amendment does not apply to companies, it applies to the government. Exodus will be laughed out of court if it tries to claim otherwise.
