Alright, the moment we have all be waiting for, a tool that will test the speed of our internet connection. Oh wait, we already have 1,398 of those, but we DON’T have one provided by the FCC, right? In recent news, the FCC has finally decided to open a site for everyone to use, that tests the speed of their internet connections COMPARED to what the providers are advertising it as.
Broadband.gov is the site you can use for the comparison. After a meeting in September of last year, the FCC stated that
internet speeds lag behind up to 50% during busy hours. The site is aimed at allowing users to find out the actual speed and at the same time, will be giving the FCC valuable information from across the country about the actual speeds people are experiencing. If you do NOT have high speed internet and would like to email the FCC, you can do so at fccinfo [at] fcc.gov.
The website has a ton of information for you to follow up on:
- National Broadband Plan Progress
- News
- Reports & Proceedings
- Public Notices
- and more!
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 was signed to give broadband providers the money and tools to get high speed internet across the United States faster. In that Act, the FCC is given authorization to check the all people are able to access said broadband, as well as, setting benchmarks and goals for providers to meet.
