Today, Electronic Arts plans to buy the publisher of a very popular smartphone game, Angry Birds. Chillingo is the name of the publisher and early stats say they sale is worth around $20 million, as reported by Reuters. The iPhone game, which was released in November of 2009, has been one of the most popular games since that month.
In an emailed statement, EA says, “By acquiring Chillingo, EA Mobile is increasing its market leadership on the Apple platform as well as reaffirming its position as the world’s leading wireless entertainment publisher.” The game was released 2 weeks ago for the Android phones and downloads hit about 2 million in just two days. The game costs only 99 cents in the Apple Store, but you can get it free in the Android Marketplace.
The game is quite simple, although even hardcore gamers find it very addicting. Basically, you are flinging birds at green pigs that have stolen the birds eggs. Each color bird has a higher weight, strength or ability and the ultimate goal is to hit every green pig in all 150 levels. I am sure that sounds easy as you read this and I have never played the game, but my guess is the reason it is addicting is because you just can’t get through all 150 levels so easy!
