Elan Microelectronics said that it has not settled its patent lawsuit against Apple. There were reports that stated Apple gave a $100 million settlement proposal to Elan. The chip company form Taiwan sued Apple over multitouch technology.
Elan claimed that Apple infringed two U.S. patents regarding touch technology. The company asked a federal court in April 2009 to stop Apple from producing, using and selling iPod Touches, iPhones, and MacBooks.
In 2010 Elan asked the U.S. International Trade Commission to ban any Apple device that utilizes the alleged technology that infringes the patents. This was before Apple was expected to release the iPad. The case has been ongoing since then and no official word was released regarding it.
Last Tuesday, Elan held its fourth quarter investors conference in Taipei and it was reported that the company is expecting an ITC ruling to come out in mid-April. Its chairman, I.H. Yeh is reported to state that the company is thinking about a settlement proposal from Apple in the tune of $100 million.
An Elan spokesman denied the reports and said that there are proposals for a settlement from Apple. The suit is still ongoing and no time frame was given for the resolution of court case or an ITC ruling.
