Now that there is a shortage in the supply of HTC Droid Incredible as well as HTC EVO, analyst said that this might encourage the growth of sales of the Motorola Droid X.
But they spoke too soon. Unfortunately even the Droid X, which is also another Android-based smartphone, is already hard to get. There are now questions if there is a shortage of its component’s supplies particularly the materials used for the display. This may not only affect the supply of the Droid X but also the other phones from Motorola as well. If this shortage would continue, it would affect other businesses at the same time including Verizon and the Open Handset Alliance.
It was just recently that the HTC mentioned that they will be asking Sony Corporation for the supply of the displays. They used to get their display supplies from Samsung’s AMOLED but since there is a shortage, they are now turning to Sony instead.
Apparently, the said shortage affects a lot of HTC mobile phones that have 3.7-inch displays. Of course this includes Droid incredible. Analysts said that this dilemma may also affect the sales of EVO as well and other devices that have bigger screens or those that have 4.3-inch displays. Sprint Nextel should also start worrying about their sales as well since they carry EVO.
The three companies namely Verizon, Google, and Motorola still do not want to give any comment as to why the Droid X does not have enough supply to meet the demand. They also didn’t confirmed if the shortage of the components is one of the main reasons why Droid X is currently hard to get. When asked for an interview, both Google and Motorola said that they should refer the questions to Verizon. But Verizon also refused to sit down and have an interview regarding this matter.

Despite Verizon’s website stating, on 7/24, that the Droid X would be shipped by 8/4, I received mine 7/29 (and would have received it 7/28 had it not been for a snafu with overnight shipping). While it’s irritating to not be able to walk into a store and get it, a measly 5 day wait was not bad!
PS – the Droid X is sweet! Can’t wait for NFL to really test the new NFL Mobile App
I am lucky I got my Droid X the day it came on sale. I know several of my friends are trying to get one and absolutely no one has them. Unbelievable how popular this phone has become in such a short amount of time.
The phone is wildly popular, and for good reason. Open and shut case Johnson. Supply doesn’t meet demand. How does it alter the situation in any by knowing that the wifi chips were delayed cause cause some taiwanese company doesn’t produce on the scale American’s consume?
