AT&T Will Be the Only Carrier to Provide All New Windows 7 OS Based Handsets

It looks like AT&T only holds grudges against the Android powered devices. For some reason, the notorious carrier has extended full support for the upcoming Windows 7 based mobile phones, without having second thoughts about the success factor of these devices.

A spokeswoman from AT&T mentioned through an email on Monday that AT&T will be the sole carrier of all new Windows 7 OS based mobile phones. So far, AT&T hasn’t released any dates for the release of any of those smartphones, but we’re all keeping our fingers crossed.

The spokeswoman refused to give further comments about the applications, features and level of support that AT&T will be doting on WP7 devices, but it is being said that unlike the cursed Kin series, Microsoft’s WP7 smartphones will have a bigger scope in the market.

According to an analyst @ Altimeter Group – it is confirmed that AT&T already signed up to buy 8 million WP7 smartphones. By the end of 2011, about a 110 million smartphones will have shipped all across the world. On the other side, we’ve got Verizon, Sprint and our cheeky little T-Mobile – all three providers haven’t said a word about their plans for the WP7 OS.

For some mysterious reasons, AT&T has been standing out to praise Microsoft and WP7 throughout the last few months. Recently at the CITA show, Jeff Bradley – Sr. VP of the mobile devices branch at AT&T said that the carrier has been waiting impatiently for the release of WP7 powered devices.

Since then, Bradley couldn’t be reached for further comments on the current status quo of AT&T and Microsoft’s WP7.

I am really sorry to hear this, cuz I wanted a Windows Phone 7 to replace my Treo 700WX which is Windows Mobile based. However I will not go to AT&T for anything even if they gave it to me.

    AT&T SUCKS!!!

This news sucks. My current Windows Mobile 5.0 phone uses AT&T as a carrier. I live in a major metropolitan area, but get poor coverage from AT&T, dropped calls, dropouts during a call, and sometimes receive text messages hours after they are sent. I’ve been waiting for Microsoft to come out with a new mobile OS, but I swore my next phone won’t be on AT&T’s network. What good is a phone if you can’t use it? Time to seriously consider an Android based phone.

I agree AT&T is the worst. I refuse to use them. I was forced to switch to Verizon because AT&T dropped my calls to clients 4 or 5 times a day in heavily populated areas with good coverage. I switched phones thinking it was my phone and got the same results. I cancelled my contract with them 2 months early and they hit me with a $350.00 cancellation fee. I dont care if they are the only carrier with the worlds coolest phone of all time. I will NEVER switch back to them. Apple and Microsoft are losing a huge amount of sales by signing single carrier agreements.

I think thats going to be a bad idea. I was going to get a windows 7 phone but i guess i’ll stick with Blackberry. I would never switch to AT&T for anything

I fired AT&T 5 years ago after catching them stealing from me. So “NO” to Windows Phone 7. Why can’t these companies have an open market. They may make a superior product, but, then they make it inferior by forcing the use of 3rd party trash. I don’t get it! I won’t get it!

I ditched Verizon a few years ago after enduring the worst possible customer service imaginable. I am more than happy with AT&T, and look forward to seeing the new Windows 7 Phone- will I change from my iPhone? maybe, maybe not- but I will definitely be staying with AT&T. I wouldn’t have a cell phone anymore if Verizon were the only option available.

I suppose the differences in provider satisfaction is regional- I know that here in South Florida that AT&T is much better than Verizon- I dropped Verizon after way too many dropped calls- and dismal customer service. I have never had a call drop with AT&T in the year since I switched.
That being said, I think I will hold off getting a new phone until I see the new OS. I am ready for a new phone, but can wait to see if the Win7 Phone is competitively priced and offers something better than the competition.
