Finally, the new MacBook Pros based on Core has appeared after it was introduced at the Consumer Electronics Show this year. The new Core processors are created for the 15- and 17-inch models.
The 15-inch MacBook Pro which has a price tag of $1799 is powered with a 2.4GHz Core i5 520M processor, as for the 15-inch model costing $1999 and the 17-inch model which is available for $2299 run a 2.53GHz Core i5 540M. As a mater of fact, a 2.66GHz Core i7 620M processor can be found inside the 15-inch MacBook Pro available for $2199, moreover, the same processor can be found integrated into the 17-inch model but it is necessary to pay additional $200.
The Core i5 as well as i7 processors are based on the technology developed by Intel, known as Turbo Boost. Due to the technology, the processor is able to enhance its clock frequency when it is required, just the same can be done with temperature and power. The technology is able to boost the clock speed of the 2.4GHz Core i5 520M up to 2.93GHz. The 2.53GHz Core i5 is able to reach up to 3.06GHz, as for the 2.66GHz Core i7, it has an upper limit of 3.33GHz.
Also the Core processors are able to use Hyper-Threading that lets each two cores to process two threads at one stroke.
One can say that the Core line also comes with a third class of processor, known as the Core i3. Actually, it is a dual-core processor that is able to clock as 2.93GHz as well as 3.06GHz, furthermore, it is available with Intel HD Graphics. But due to some reasons Apple made a decision not to take advantage of the Core i3.
