Apple Files Patent Lawsuit against Samsung

Apple claims that Samsung infringed its patents with its Galaxy line of tablets and phones, which Apple said looked too similar to its iPhone and other products. The lawsuit was filed last Friday in the U.S. District Court in San Francisco.

Apple attached photos of Samsung’s mobile devices that look like its own iPhone. Apple also claimed that Samsung copied its iOS icons. Apple set the standard so high that its competitors would do all it take to have their share of the market.

What makes Samsung’s situation unique is that the company is both a competitor and a supplier of Apple. The company manufactures the microchips that Apple used for its iPad and iPhone. There were rumors last year that Samsung planned to use the same chips for its Galaxy line.

Apple claimed that Samsung initially had a different design for its devices but instead the company chose to copy Apple’s user interface, technology, and style. Samsung decided to change the Galaxy Tab’s design after the iPad’s success.

Apple also has pending similar lawsuits against Nokia and HTC. But it suffered a setback when the U.S. International Trade Commission recommended to deny Apple’s request to prohibit the importation of HTC Android phones.
