Amazon.com updated the price of its Apple TV listing. The online retail giant also changed the title of the item, which made people speculate that a new model would be coming soon. Apple updated the set-top box in September of 2010, is now listed for $89.99. This is a 9 percent discount from its original retail price.
The Apple TV set-top box is now listed as the 2010 version. Amazon tags the most up-to-date version of Apple products as Newest Version. This is the reason why people were wondering whether the 2010 tag would be a sign that it would be replaced by something new.
This is also the first time that Amazon sold the Apple TV for less than $95. The move from the online retail giant is similar to the one made by Best Buy, which also brought the price down to $89.99, but consumers must first add the item to their carts to see the discounted price.
Apple didn’t have a music event this year and instead opt to bundle its iPod and entertainment announcements together with the introduction of the iPhone 4S last October. Apple TV was not mentioned during the event, which made people speculate that the company would not be releasing any updates to the product line this year.
