According to the NYTimes today, the Amazon Kindle will be available for purchase at all Target store nationwide, by Sunday. With information from 104 stores that have been testing the sale of the Kindle, Amazon has made the decision based on an “overwhelming positive” response in store.
Target will be the first brick and mortar store to sell the unit, which was previously only available on the Amazon.com website. Even though you will be able to go to your local Target to check this fancy book reader out, don’t expect to pay anything less than $259, which is the same price listed at Amazon.com.
Analyst are saying that Amazon is starting to feel the pinch with more smart devices and tablets on the market and really needed to get their product to more people than they could reach on the website alone. Products like Apple’s iPad and Barnes and Nobles Nook, are really the only strong competition. But isn’t any competition against Apple enough competition to worry about?
Amazon manufactures the Kindle and sells e-books for the unit. At the same time as the announcement to sell the Kindle at Target, Barnes and Noble is offering a $50 gift card with any purchase of the Nook.
