Android Users Seen as Network Hoggers

Google Android phone users, like those who own a Samsung Galaxy S, have been called Internet hogs because they tie up more of a network’s bandwidth than any other smartphone users, which causes the network capacity to slow down and be clogged up, according to industry experts.

The popularity of the Android based phones, which are made by businesses like HTC Corps and Samsung, is seen as part of the movement for Internet capable handsets to win over computers in being the most used gear for web surfing.

All the wireless operators out there want to raise as much money as they can from web surfing consumers with the recent social networking boon, but with clogged net access, it makes their job difficult.

Not many of these are admitting to their customers of the problems with clogged and slow networks for fear of losing business, but the problem definitely exists.

A study done by the technology firm Arieso concluded that it’s the Android phone users that are using the most internet traffic bandwidth because of its better cameras, video recorders and the accompanying software used to edit footage of these items.

Android’s software is given free to the businesses that sell cell phones, so the market has grown substantially in the past two years since it came out. Usage by Google Android owners came in second during last quarter, putting it ahead of Apple iPhone and Research in Motion, but behind Nokia’s Symbian. However, analysts say it will be on top of them all by next year.

Every since Apple’s iPhone appeared in 2007, mobile data usage has soared, doubling each year the amount of data going through all the networks. Some say this is the cause of the slowdown of the networks, as the new smartphone’s popularity has grown way faster than anyone predicted and the networks can’t keep up with it.

So, Android phone users, hopefully the networks will find a way to catch up with the popularity of the smartphone craze, but until then, we all just have to have a little patience and share the available network capabilities.
