The T-Mobile Tap has much in common with the HTC Touch, as far as its look and feel is concerned. The size of the new phone is 4.2 inches long by 2.2 inches wide by 0.5 inch thick. It has a rather nice design with its curved corners, rounded edges, and a soft-touch exterior. The weight of the Tap is 3.7 ounces. So it is light enough, as you can see.
The new device features a 2.8-inch display. This is smaller than those of the Samsung Mythic and the LG Chocolate Touch, for instance. But at the same time, the screen supports 262,000-color support and provides a 240×320-pixel resolution. So the images on the display appear very vibrant and bright. Among the adjustable features are the brightness, the backlight time, and the greeting message.
The touch screen is responsive enough. There is also the calibration wizard that enables you to adjust the precision of your finger taps. On the left of the home screen you will find a widget tray. It resembles the TouchWiz interface, in fact, that is common for Samsung phones. It is possible to drag icons to and from the home screen. Among the most popular widgets available on the Tap are shortcuts to Google Maps and GPS with TeleNav.
There are also icons along the bottom of the home screen. There you can find the phone dialer, the contacts list, the Web browser, and the main menu.
For writing messages you have two available options: an alphanumeric T9-capable keypad, or a full virtual QWERTY keyboard. The phone has an auto word completion support in two languages you can choose from – English and Spanish.
Under the display three physical controls are located, they include the Talk key, a square navigation toggle with a middle selection key, and the End key. On the right you will find the volume rocker, the screen lock key, and the camera key. On the top are the power button and headset/charger jack. The camera lens is on the back.
