In the 2000s, Motorola led the flip-phone market with its thin Razr phone line. Now that touchscreen smartphones have been dominating the market, the Razr became obsolete. That was until Motorola came out with a new Razr that runs on Android mobile operating system.
The Droid Razr is a thin smartphone that is compatible with Verizon’s 4G LTE network. It is just 0.28 inches thick, whjichis 25 percent slimmer than Apple’s iPhone 4S. It is a 4.3 inch touchscreen and Kevlar fiber on the back. Kevlar is said to be used for its strength, which could just be a gimmick from Motorola. It feels good in the hand.
Because of its thickness, the Droid Razr doesn’t have a removable battery. This could turn off some consumers. In a streaming video battery test, it had mixed results. During a continuous streaming video via its data connection, the Droid Razr lasted more than three hours.
The Razr had better battery life when tested using Wi-Fi. It lasted nearly seven hours, which is on par with the Galaxy S II and the iPhone 4S.
The Motorola Droid Razr costs $300 with a two year contract from Verizon. It will be available starting Friday.
