nokia-n900Things have been brewing up at Nokia headquarters and the news is that the next flagship is to be called the N900. You must see this because it seems to be beating out the competition. The Nokia N900 is truly a computing device you can hold in your hand. Read this short review article to see some strengths and features of this new mobile smartphone.

As smartphones go, this one is to be classified as a super-smartphone because of its operating system. The same people who brought the world the Linux operating system have made a great system for the N900. Its called Maemo 5 and in spite of the weird name, it works quickly and with the features that will be seen on more smartphones in the future. One is the way you can see all your contacts from Facebook, Twitter and other IM programs with one view. Thanks to this feature you can be in control of the whole group with little effort. Another feature is the ability to do geotagging with photos. This is where you take a photo, change the hardly readable GPS tag into something you can use, then categorize it into the memory. You can truly see web sites like you want to see them with the Mozilla browser included with Maemo 5. Mozilla also makes the popular Firefox browser. While online you have access to flash files and java applets, just like your computer or laptop at home. You can make multiple desktops with this Maemo system. You are given a tag cloud that shows your most popular photos. The software on the N900 updates automatically from the web wirelessly so you can worry less about security and enjoy your N900.

With its huge amount of memory available, the N900 can take on multi tasking with ease. You will be able to have many applications open and still have the speed you want. The N900 ( also called Rover ) comes with a 600 Megahertz processor and its own Gigabyte of application memory. It also had 768 of virtual memory. For storage it has 32 Gigabytes of internal memory which is expandable with a MicroSD card of up to 16 Gigabytes for a total of 48 Gigabytes. This is 7000 MP3 songs or 40 hours of DVD quality video. That is quite a chunk of entertainment !

The resistive-touch screen looks great on the N900 and is three and half inches in size. This size beats a lot of its competitors. The screen comes with a keyboard or you can use the manual side-slide keyboard. The manual ( hardware ) keyboard is a full QWERTY device and also has directional arrows, just like your laptop or PC. This is quite handy when slamming out some text messages or emails. The N900 has a generous ten accounts for email. You have all the regular protocols you need for email with this smartphone. It is possible to have threaded SMS conversations.

Even though this is called a “computing device” by Nokia, it does make calls. You will have T-Mobile support with the N900. It has quad band GSM ( 850, 900, 1700, 2100 ) and tri band ( 900, 1700, 2100 ) WCDMA frequencies. It is of course a Wi-Fi device but also has bluetooth. One really nice thing about the Nokia is the FM transmitter. It can broadcast your favorite music to your vehicle’s car radio. This sets this machine apart from many of the so-called “smart” phones.

The camera is a generous five megapixel model with a lens cover. It does take video and comes with Carl Zeiss optics and dual LED flash to boot. All in all, this Nokia is one that is defining the next few years for smartphones. Look for it to put the android systems to shame.

  1. The ipod touch 2g is the 2nd revision of apples newest ipod. The Ipod touch in general is an amazing personal device mixing entertainment, media, organization, communication, and mobility in one sleek easy to use device.

First, the main improvements the 2nd generation has over the first are as follows:
*Curved back, making it more comfortable to hold and overall thinner.
    *Built in Speaker
*Physical Volume controls on left side of the device.
*Brighter more vibrant colors on the screen.
    *Faster Processor
*Built in Bluetooth Chip (only usable after the upcoming iphoneOS 3.0 is released)
    *Better battery Life

    Now onto the review:
    CONTROLS:
The ipod touch’s Multitouch screen is extremely comfortable and easy to use. The screen can recognize multiple finger inputs at the same time and the touch mechanism itself is very accurate and intuitive. This feature alone has made the ipod touch able to do all that it can do. Having the controls on screen also makes them dynamic, meaning they cna be controlled by software and be designed specifically for the application its used for.

    Screen:
The gorgeous screen shows vibrant colors and is very large for any mobile device. This makes watching movies and videos, as well as viewing photos very entertaining and hassle free. The screens brightness can be adjusted, and there is a hidden sensor above the screen which can automatically adjust the backlight depending on ambient lighting conditions.

    Functionality:
In addition to the perloaded apps, which include Mail, Music, Video, Settings, Youtube, Itunes, calendar, calculator, clock, Contacts, Notes, Stocks, Photos, and Safari; the ipod touch also allows downloading many many apps from the Appstore which range from Games to Social Networking to Utilities. Alot of the apps are free to download, including most of the popular ones such as AIM, Tap Tap, etc. Going beyond that, the ipod touch 2g is now able to be jailbroken, which allows it to run third party apps which can do much more than what the appstore apps can do (example: GPSPHONE: Gameboy Advance Emulator for Ipod touch). I will not go into the details of jailbreaking but there is many resources on the internet if youre interested (google).

When the new 3.0 Firmware comes out in June, which costs 10$ for ipod touch users, many new features will be added, including the ability to use the bluetooth chip which is lying dormant right now in every ipod touch 2nd gen.

    OVERALL:
Overall the ipod touch is one of if not THE best mobile devices out right now. If you cannot get an iphone because you dont have AT
