LG continues to intensify the heat of the mobile phone industry with their new technology power kit, the LG GM750 Layla. The phone runs on a Windows Mobile 6.5 Pro operating system, but users won’t find the conventional Windows interface on it. Instead, users can expect the new S-Class interface which organizes applications neatly. Not to brag, but GM750 is among the first few devices to carry the tough, yet friendly Win Mo 6.5 platform.
A Qualcomm MSM7201A 528 MHz processor drives the technology powerhouse running the mobile phone. With measurements 109.8 x 56.5 x 11.9 mm, having the mobile phone on your palm is like holding your television’s remote control. The phone has a three inch display with full touch screen capabilities and 240 x 400 pixels resolution. The screen might not be the biggest available, but it works well with videos and images. With the touch sensitive display, navigating through the phone’s applications and accessing files in absolutely fun and fast.
Default phone settings can be boring in the long run, but users need not worry with that. LG understands that need and addresses it by giving users the freedom to customize their units using third party applications. Users can change the theme, ringtone, interface, and almost every setting on the mobile phone. Extending the list of installed applications is relatively easy with useful applications available at Windows Marketplace for Mobile.
A memory card slot located at the upper right hand side of the phone can handle as much as a 16GB MicroSD memory card. That’s enough space to store your favorite music, images, videos, emails, recordings, and other important documents you may need while on the go. A microUSB v2.0 port is also available on the phone’s left hand side allowing easy transfer of files from your phone to your computer and vice-versa via Microsoft’s free My Phone service.
LG GM750 is mounted with a 5 Mega Pixels high quality camera suitable for taking superb quality images. Capturing special moments with the phone’s camera is made more exciting with images reaching 2592 x 1944 pixels resolution; making them suitable as softcopy or hardcopy. The only drawback of the camera is the absent of a flash feature. Users will need to have external light source when taking photographs, especially those which are taken outdoors at night.
GM750 also comes with Wi-Fi and GPS, which are meant to extend your web browsing routine and offer online connection no matter where you are. GM750 is not like your typical handy phone. It can be your next best friend to access the internet or your aide in scheduling your next meeting. It is designed to support Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync, so sending and receiving emails is worry free. Instant messaging is also available with the phone’s ability to load Windows Live, perfect for both reading emails and IM services.
On the entertainment side, there is no way that GM750 will be left behind. From audio to video there is absolutely satisfaction ahead. The GM750 is geared to enhance your music listening pleasure with a built-in audio player that can play standard audio file formats such as MP3, WAV, WMNA, and even eAAC+. Audio files of these extensions can easily be loaded to the phone’s expansion memory for an all-out-audio entertainment. Unlike other smart phones, with the GM750 adding audio files to the unit are as easy as transferring other forms of data.
The same explosive experience is what users will get with the phone’s video player that supports video formats like WMV, MP4, H.263, and H.264. All in all, this phone provides the user with a great multimedia experience.
Applications that work with the phone are very common and users will find them easy to use. Installed office applications include the whole Microsoft Office pack with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, PDF reader, and OneNote. These applications are similar to the ones we see installed in many computer systems, but this time they are for mobile purposes. Adding to that, third party application makers is sure to gain advantage of the phone’s features since other apps designed for Windows mobile are supported.
Other features that go with GM750 include a Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP, a Faxing feature, GPRS, EDGE, WLan, HSUPA, and an accelerometer that detects changes with the phone’s positioning. The use of accelerometer, however, is the trend of modern day smartphones that gives user the same viewing pleasure when the phone is set to a different pose. Images and other displays will automatically adjust to the phone’s position through the accelerometer.
The LG GM750 is definitely one of the best smartphones to be released this year, and it lives up to its expectations. Unfortunately, it will only been available by October in the following countries: UK, Italy, Germany, Spain, Greece, the Netherlands, and France. Everyone else in the world will have to wait until late 2009 to catch this smartphone in stores nearby. For those who don’t live in those countries, the phone is well worth the wait with all of its great features and advantages.
