Motorola MILESTONE Review

Steve McBrian 02/17/2010 11

Introduction:

The look of the new Motorola MILESTONE is less outstanding and fairly calmer; this is rather odd, since they are first to introduce Android 2.0. Now let us look at the phones design.

Design:

This is defiantly the slimmest landscape-sliding QWERTY phone available in the market. In addition, the metallic construction does add some weight to this MILESTONE; it is, expected with the high-quality materials. The soft matte coating that is, on its rear is very enjoyable the way it hugs onto its metallic materials, it is comfortable to hold.  The Motorola MILESTONE boasts the best screen on any other Android handset. It has a solid exterior; the screen is more durable similar to glass. This one is the very first Android phone with a 3.7” TFT touch screen with support of 16 million colors. It does attract fingerprints but the light make is easy to see.

Under the screen, you find four touch-sensitive buttons, which perform a variety of Android functions: back, home, menu, and search. On its left side is the micro USB port for charging. On the right is camera button and volume rocker. Standard 3.5mm headset jack and the power/lock button on top.

At the back, is the 5-megapixel camera and dual-LED flash to the upper outside speaker grid at the bottom, Once the back metal cover is removed, the microSD card slot and battery gets exposed. The Motorola MILESTONE will impress with its physical QWERTY and its slim looks.

Messaging:

We are thoroughly; impressed by the usability the landscape and the portrait keyboards with the phone’s ability for predict text. Message applications are broken down into every contact and are, displayed in the threaded view. It Supports MMS, SMS and Email.

GMail is the default email supplier on the Motorola MILESTONE; fortunately, you able to add IMAP, POP and Microsoft Exchange accounts.

Connectivity:

The Motorola MILESTONE has quad band GSM and dual band 3G (900/2100MHz) this allows fast, wireless web connectivity. It also comes with Wi-Fi.

The Motorola MILESTONE loads the pages very fast offering enjoyable internet surfing. The Motorola MILESTONE comes equipped with the best browsers on the Android handsets these days.

Camera:

This camera definitely stands out. You have a digital zoom, color effect, different shooting mode, and option to choose the focus mode (infinite, auto and macro).

Photo quality is much better a range of tones of its colors captured near perfect whilst detail of the image was very good. The MILESTONE sports a dual-LED flash when image taken in dim light is, perfectly captured. The 5-megapixel camera met all expectations. It also did outstanding job in video recording. After you record a video, you have an option to share this directly by e-mail, MMS or YouTube. While transferred to your computer, videos are in 3GP format with a H.264 encoding.

Multimedia:

There is little to talk about about the MILESTONE’s multimedia since it remains somewhat unchanged. Its music player stays the same. The Motorola MILESTONE without a doubt boasts powerful exterior speakers.

Besides its sluggish navigation in-between three home screens, it is an extremely good for running application with very little slowdown. Regrettably, the Motorola MILESTONE does not carry Xvid and DivX files. The Motorola MILESTONE is installed with a 8GB microSD card.

Performance:

The Motorola MILESTONE in-call qualities are high the callers sounded clear and loud. They did not have complains and said the in-call quality was almost perfect. This handset utilizes manufacturer proprietary a noise annulment technology call the Crystal Talk.  The Motorola MILESTONE comes equipped with a 1400mAh capacity. It performs well and provides just about one day continuous use once you do not abuse this device; this is acceptable on a smart phone with massive display. However, if you talk loads, you should prepare for chargeing the phone often. According to its manufacturer, a battery of this Motorola MILESTONE ought to provide 6.5hrs of talk time keeping this device operational up to 350hrs standby.

Conclusion:

The Motorola MILESTONE is the best smart phones today. It boasts an awesome camera, has excellent browser and 3G . It has great QWERTY keyboard for fast messaging.

The cell phone was, sold out quickly after the official release, which proves that great interest customers took to the device.

Cons… Good QWERTY keyboard with clattered layout, so the layout is clattered, but it’s a good keyboard? How is that a con?

I agree – thats a strange comment re the keyboard. I really want to buy one of these phones swapping from a Blackberry Bold but worried that I wont be able to type fast on it – I have seen mixed reports about the use of the keyboard. Does anyone have a view on ability to type fast on this phone?

I strongly recommend Milestone over HD2. I have tested HD2 and it’s not as good as Android is. Milestone is a better choice!

I’ve migrated from a G1 to a Milestone. The G1′s keyboard is better than the Milestone’s, simply because there’s more space between each key. The Milestone’s is a little cramped in comparison. That said, it’s better than any other Android device I’ve looked at. Personally, I need a physical keyboard for the amount of typing I do on a smartphone.
In every other way, the Milestone is close to faultless – OK, battery life is poor, but that applies to every smartphone with a decent touchscreen. I would agree that for my needs, it’s the best smartphone on the market.

I’ve owned this phone for about a month and for the most part I love it. I’m having one problem with my display. For some reaon when I turn my screen off, or the screen times out, after a couple seconds, the soft keys will light up again, and will stay on untill i turn my screen back on and turn it off again. This drains my battery significantly while the phone is sopposed to be in idle.

I am often using a phone at the “fringes of cell phone coverage” up here in Canada. I would like to know if this phone has good reception/antenna and provides good service at edge of the coverage areas. Any other smart phones worthy of consideration for use in areas where cell coverage is less than perfect.

Is it possible to use Motorala milestone for video calling, as its specification shows unability for said funcion even after having HSDPA up to 10.2mbps?

    Well,

Been using this phone for a month and I have only 2 Nags.(Yes Only 2)
First one is not because of phone or anything and its Android.Android 2.1 shipped in by default is good but wish it allowed me place my software installations on External Memory.I cant do find the phone to be slow after I run 10 applications simultaneously(Trillian,MailBoxes,Browsers,Some Adobe Tintin Comics etc etc) Guess thats too much to ask but I want it.

Second one is keypad. Its perfectly fine and typing does takes getting used to but yeh this span is 2 days at max for any geek.

The phone is excellent with graphic chip equivallent to Iphone 4.Screen is brilliant.Really like auto wifi -3 G switch.Something my old window mobile was pain to use for .
