HTC EVO 4G Review

The HTC EVO 4G (can only be purchased from Sprint) might not be as groundbreaking as the first smartphones to hit the market, but an arsenal of integrated tech definitely makes it a phone for the future. Htc has built the Evo 4G specifically to harness Sprint’s fourth generation of wireless cellphone data transmission; to break this down into small-change, this android (OS 2.1) based smartphone is optimized to handle internet speeds that rivals broadband connections.

At first glance, the first thing that stands-out about the Evo 4G is the size of the screen. Htc has delivered a massive 4.3 inch TFT touchscreen to better render HD content.

If that’s not enough to get consumers twitching, the Htc Evo 4G is able to record HD videos (1280×720) and transmit the output to an HDTV via HDMI cable. Linking up this smartphone to an HDTV will not only allow users to share content on an even bigger screen, but it also makes it possible to stream content from the internet directly to the HDTV (using the 4G connection of course).

Since the mention of video recording is being made, one can only wonder if Htc has imparted a worthy camera on its new smartphone. To answer in short, Htc outfitted the Evo 4G with not one, but two cameras to better satisfy users. Although the camera embedded on the front is a mere 1.3 MP (intended for video calling), the back of the phone houses a whopping 8 MP camera. Fear not about storing content or installing applications, there is approximately 1 GB of internal storage and up to 32GB can be added via a mini-SD card.

Now to address the Evo’s blazing speeds. In terms of performance, a 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor gives the Evo 4G the needed oomph to utilize useful applications and collaborate with the 4G power sprint is offering. Although 4G gives the Evo prowess to munch away at websites and HD content, Sprint’s fourth generation services are limited. Again, there is no need to worry; the Evo 4G easily switches over to the lesser and more available 3G network to ensure internet connectivity.

In conclusion, the HTC EVO 4G is a solid android based smartphone to purchase (if you can afford and maintain it). It’s built in tethering, that allows up to 8 other devices to tap into its possible 4G power, is quite a handy feature. All in all, HTC is ready to take on the competition.
