You can use solar panels in your home to produce electricity and now you can use a solar paneled iPhone case to charge your phone. Novothink, the company who created this solar charging case known as the Solar Surge, spoke about this several months ago. Who would have thought they would have been able to get into production and get it available to purchase in a few months? Not me, but regardless, it’s done.
Now, obviously, when using a solar charger of any kind, you must know that it won’t charge as quickly as it would if you had an AC adapter for charging; however, it does work significantly well. Novothink’s Solar Surge case charger geared towards those that spend time outdoors since the sun is needed in order to charge the phone.
The case has an internal 1320mAh battery for the iPhone and the iPod Touch has a 1500mAh battery internally. Novothink currently expects for the Solar Surge to add an hour or so to your battery life for every two hours of continuous sunlight. This will vary, of course, dependent upon whether you are on 2G or 3G and in the future, 4G.
Upon purchase of this charging case for your Apple iPhone, you will also receive a USB cable so that you are capable of charging your phone when the sun isn’t out. In addition, you can only purchase the case in white or black for right now, although they have a multitude of colors, metallic colors at that, that they plan to release at some point in time.
What about pricing? You may think that this type of charging device would be a pretty penny, but it’s actually not that hefty of a price considering what you are getting out of it. The iPhone Solar Surge charging case is retailing for $79.95 with the iPod Touch retail price being $69.95.
