Toshiba-SatelliteToshiba Satellite U505-S2970 is expected to be a slender and light laptop. But in reality, it does not live up to these expectations. The device has a solid look and feel. In fact, the Toshiba Satellite U505-S2970 is almost as heavy as its 14.1-inch sibling Toshiba Satellite E105-S1802. In addition, it features the same components. So the laptop turns out to be just average.

The new gadget has a weight of 4.9 pounds. Compare this to 5.0 pounds of Toshiba Satellite E105-S1802.

The keyboard is flimsy and appears to be of not very high quality. Moreover, the mouse is not good either. It gives you a loud click when you press it.

The touch pad also leaves much to be desired. There are too many miscues. Even when you simply type in Word or even browsing in Firefox, there appears unexpected zoom.

The screen of the Satellite U505 is 13.3 inches and provides 1,280×800 pixels of a standard resolution, which is common for laptops of its size. The brightness of colors is not of a high quality. It is ok with those who needs productivity use. However, if you are a movie fan or a passionate photographer, you will be disappointed.

The device features built-in stereo speakers providing satisfying quality of sound.

The laptop also provides you with an ordinary row of ports. Thus, you have three USB 2.0 ports, one of which doubles as an eSATA port. It lacks FireWire. But there is HDMI, which is next to the standard-issue VGA port. There is also space for an ExpressCard/54 slot. The device also incorporates draft N Wi-Fi.

The Toshiba Satellite U505-S2970 is priced at about $800. It provides a number of features that are ordinary for laptops at this price. The gadget incorporates Core 2 Duo P7450 processor, that has 2.13GHz as well as 4GB of DDR2 memory. Though it has a 500GB hard drive, which is significantly more compared to its 320GB competitors.

As far as its battery backup is concerned, it is rather mediocre, nothing impressive. It has a battery life of 3 hours and 28 minutes, which is typical of a six-cell battery.
