Rumor has it that Acer has decided to join the frameless laptop (laptops sans bezels) bandwagon with suggestions of the availability of the Acer frameless laptop in the third quarter of 2010.
The far-fetched idea is certainly possible and accelerates the level of curiosity among many.
Though it’s just hearsay and the reports are yet to be substantiated, Acer’s untitled frameless laptop may come equipped with a touch screen keyboard and the display printed on a reinforced glass substrate.
An unnamed source has reported that Acer is expected to make use of Corning’s reinforced glass substrate and print color on its back, so that the substrate works like a notebook cover for frameless design.
This innovative design is expected to minimize the thickness of the ultra-thin notebook and mitigate the material costs too. The rumored laptop is said to be incredibly thin when compared to the standards of traditional laptops.
This Frame Zero Concept has been already boasted by Fujitsu. Also Asus, the arch –rival of Acer, has been under the limelight for months, thanks to its dual-display laptop prototype.
The OLPC XO-3 is not far behind either with plans to do away with the clickity keyboard for the touch screen version.
Despite the Acer frameless laptop being just tittle-tattle, the beauty of the technology can just not be ignored. But until Acer comes out with an official release, we ought to keep waiting.
People with a tremendous insight of our computer future must be able to conceive that display bezels and tactile keyboards would not have an enviable place in the prospective. So, we might as well get started with the trend, maybe, from the second half of this year.
