Sony Ready To Release 3D Update For PlayStation 3

According to Rosemary Hatterley, at PC World, Sony seems set on releasing their 3D update to all PlayStation 3 console owners within the coming weeks, to prepare for their new line-up of Full HD 3D TV’s, which are due to be released sometime this Spring/Summer, also coinciding with the launch of 3D programming in Q4 2010 and more heavily into 2011.

Vice-President of new platform, planning and development at Sony Computer Entertainment Europe Nainan Shah said,”PS3 users worldwide will only need to upgrade the PS3 system software via the internet and there is no need to repurchase the system to enjoy 3D games.” All that is required from PS3 owners is that they simply install the new update once released and sit back and enjoy amazing 3D viewing. No need to purchase additional add-ons, unless of course you still need to buy a 3D TV to view it on.

Sony is currently hard at work making sure all is complete and ready to go before launching everyone into the 3D realm of entertainment. Sony has studios creating stereoscopic 3D games and also supporting third party publishers to develop PS3 games in 3D. They will also, along with the help of the Blu-Ray Disc Association (BDA), release 3D Blu-Ray movies and players, of which the PlayStation 3 will be the first official 3D Blu-Ray player out in the market ( kind of makes the $300 investment worth your while, doesn’t it?).

Sony is hoping 3D will take off as quickly as it can when it launches this Spring/Summer, as the first official broadcast of 3D programming will take place during the 2010 Fifa World Cup in South Africa on June 12. And, as they announced at CES, Sony is partnering with The Discovery Channel and IMAX, to bring the first 24/7 dedicated 3D television network in the U.S. in 2011.

Time and time again, the PS3 is proving to be unbeatable quality and value.

Had I bought and original Xbox or or standalone Blu-Ray player, both would have been obsolete now, with advent of HDMI ports (in the case of the XBox), and Profile updates in the case of Blu-Ray players.

Thew PS3 that came out in 2006 is still bang-upto date spec-wise. Even if you paid top dollar for it (compared to the latest models), you would have only had to buy it once..

Sony should be getting good karma from the press over this, not the usual Sony bashing that goes on….
